The wait for The Shannara Chronicles season 2 has been a test of endurance. But like Eretria climbing from the ashes of a fallen city, we arise as an official release date is announced.

Season 2 of The Shannara Chronicles will premiere Wednesday, October 11 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Spike. The 10 episode run will pick up a year after we last left our heroes and you can watch the first trailer for the new season below:

Our world isn’t the only one on the brink of complete chaos it seems. Shannara hasn’t been able to heal itself from the wounds the Dagda Mor inflicted back in season 1. But destiny has stepped in and new heroes have been chosen to pick up where others have left off.

Season two takes place one year after the events of last season. The Four Lands are in chaos. The re-emergence of magic has the populace terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.

As we reported earlier, this season of The Shannara Chronicles will be bringing us a handful of new characters sure to liven things up. Most of them can be seen in action for the first time in the trailer above.

Mareth, originally described as “both volatile and unpredictable,” seems to have a rather large part to play in this season of Shannara if the trailer is any indication.

Weapon expert Garet gives off a vibe that is both badass and cheeky as heck. I don’t wanna jinx it but I also want to be first to call dibs on him before anyone else does. So — Dibs.

Lastly, we can spot new addition Lyria. We’ve known that she was going to be romantically linked with Eretria for a while now, but apart from that she’s been quite the mystery. Based on her costuming, however, she looks quite fancy and well taken care of. Could she be a princess of some sort? We know Eretria does have a thing for royalty…

Follow along with us as we enjoy season 2 of The Shannara Chronicles which airs Wednesday, October 11 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Spike.
