Shadowhunters season 3 may not be coming back this summer, but at least there are still a few announcements we can sink our teeth into, including the casting of the new Jonathan Morgenstern.

Last seen clawing after Clary’s arm in the mid-season finale of Shadowhunters, Jonathan Morgenstern will appear once more in the back half of the season. However, Will Tudor, much like his identity as Sebastian Verlac, will not be stepping back into the Shadow World.

Instead, we welcome Luke Baines, who joined the cast and will take on the role.

Deadline reports that, “Jonathan’s return will present Clary and the Shadowhunters with a new level of evil that they can’t even imagine.” Don’t expect him to play nice and join the rest of the group for book club. If Jonathan’s lineage — not to mention the process it took to resurrect him — is any indicator of the type of evil we are about to witness, the group better start utilizing those strength and stamina runes.

But before we see him take the screen, Baines recorded a quick video introducing himself and thanking the writers and acknowledging the immense power of the Shadowhunters fandom.

Additionally, the official Shadowhunters Twitter account posted a first-look at Baines’ Jonathan.

The cast and crew are hard at work filming the final two installments of the series. While the latest filming is still slated as the two-hour finale for the series, efforts to fight for a fourth season are not dying down. Recently, it was reported that the producing partners of the show have heard and seen the efforts of the fandom and are still working to keep the series alive.

And now the plotting begins. As Baines teases, in the last 12 episodes fans will hear (see?) how Jonathan feels about Clary and Jace. What lies ahead? Unfortunately, we still have to wait until 2019 to find out!

Shadowhunters season 3B returns in 2019.
