TGIT fans, brace yourselves. Scandal‘s Olivia Pope and HTGAWM‘s Annalise Keating may be swapping shows later this year!

Update: The news has been confirmed by producer Peter Nowalk in a tweet, which reveals a portion of the crossover script:

In Scandal‘s final season it seems that no one can help Olivia Pope. But maybe we were limiting our scope. In new photos on the stars’ of Scandal and HTGAWM Instagram accounts it looks like TGIT is getting a crossover event!

Could Annalise Keating save Olivia Pope? Will Olivia Pope finally reveal how is actually is possible to get away with multiple murders?

Kerry Washington posted this photo in the familiar stomping grounds of How to Get Away With Murder‘s lead attorney.

Viola Davis followed up with a post that is noticeably lacking a visitor’s badge in Mellie Grant’s Oval Office.

What does it mean?

As Scandal winds down, a few looming questions remain — Is Quinn dead and can Olivia Pope come back from serving as Command? While we expect the first to be answered in the winter premiere, the latter seems unlikely at this point.

One hour later on HTGAWM it seems as if Laurel and her baby are the main focus of season 4’s winter premiere. But then again, there is yet another dead body and Wes’ murder still hanging over the Keating posse.

What better scenario than to have Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating take a break from their spirals and take on a fresh case to clear their heads? At least

Crossovers are not a new phenomenon. The Chicago series on NBC, the CW/DC events, all help to set up worlds in which networks can borrow and set up reasons to never miss an episode of any series. TGIT, while the shows exist nicely together, has never set up the series in the same universe. Grey’s Anatomy is currently setting up it’s own firefighter series spinoff during this season’s run.

But while I watch TGIT every week, I never imagined the Grant administration existing in the same space. Imagine following the politics while trying to cover up murders? Or waiting for Grant relief funds when any of the very many Seattle disasters occur?

As a viewer my brain can barely handle all the drama!

We will update with more details on the crossover as they arrive. Until then, what is your best guess?

TGIT returns January 18 to ABC.
