Riverdale is getting a spinoff starring one of Archie’s most popular characters: Sabrina the Teenage Witch!

Update (December 1, 2017): The new Sabrina show, originally set for The CW, is instead going to Netflix! What’s more, the streamer has booked two seasons of the drama consisting of 20 episodes. We can’t wait! Check out the first page of the pilot

Original story (September 20, 2017): Deadline has learned that a Sabrina series titled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is in the works at The CW and is being shot for the 2018 – 2019 season.

According to the report, the new series is described as “a dark drama in the horror genre” that “is worlds away from the bubbly 1996 Sabrina, the Teenage Witch comedy series starring Melissa Joan Hart.”

I mean just look at her:

“The new project reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

Between Sabrina’s built-in popularity and the success of Riverdale, we’re sure The CW has another hit on their hands.

And it’s not the only spinoff The CW is developing. We learned in June that the network is also working on a Supernatural spinoff called The Wayward Sisters.
