The Blade Runner sequel/reboot (a sequoot?) is looking for a star, and Ryan Gosling might just be that star.

Most of the Blade Runner buzz has, up until now, been about whether or not original director Ridley Scott would return for the sequel. First he said he might direct, then he denied it, then he changed his mind again — and now we know that Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve will pick up the reins, with Ridley Scott set as executive producer.

During all this time, Blade Runner star Harrison Ford has, thankfully, remained on board. Ford will reprise his role from the 1982 original, playing retired police officer Rick Deckard.

In the first movie, Deckard reluctantly returned to the field to hunt down “replicants,” realistic human-looking robots who posed a threat to humanity. Deckard ended up falling for a female replicant, Rachel, who truly believed she was human.

Variety has now learned that none other than Ryan Gosling is in talks to star opposite Ford in the sequel, which is set many decades after the original (which took place in 2019’s dystopian Los Angeles).

No news yet about who Gosling would play; our bet is on a younger cop bringing Ford back out of retirement, or perhaps his long-lost son who swings in on a motorcycle and takes Deckard on an archaeological adventure… oh, wait, no, we’re thinking of Indiana Jones.

Production on Blade Runner 2 is set to start in 2016.
