Ron Weasley may be a Gryffindor, but his off-screen counterpart Rupert Grint definitely is not. See the Harry Potter alum take Pottermore’s Sorting Hat quiz here!

Rupert Grint — who we can now officially refer to as the original Ron Weasley actor (and isn’t that just odd?) — has spent most of his life telling the same cute stories about how much he and Ron had in common.

The line “we both like sweets” is probably ingrained in all Potter fans’ heads at this point, and as the trio grew up before our eyes, Rupert remained the actor who seemed to resemble his on-screen counterpart the most (in personality if not in looks).

But now the truth is out: Rupert isn’t as much like Ron as we — and he — thought!

Because, despite always assuming himself to be a Gryffindor, it turns out that Rupert is, in fact, a Hufflepuff. See him take the test on Pottermore, and react with the mild and understated surprise so typical of his kind:

After proclaiming, “Well you would have to be Gryffindor! That’s what I feel, like I kind of belong there,” Rupert takes the actual test and…

“Hufflepuff! Nah, yeah, I feel pretty good. It wasn’t what I was expecting. But that’s really clever. Yeah, I love that.”

And with a quintessential Hufflepuff reaction like that, we’re pretty sure the Sorting Hat made the right choice.

How appropriate that Pottermore should sort the o.g. Ron Weasley into Hufflepuff just as we’re learning more about Ron and Hermione’s daughter Rose Granger-Weasley, who appears to be a Hufflepuff as well!

In the fast-approaching Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play, Paul Thornley will play an older Ron Weasley, with Noma Dumezweni playing his wife Hermione Granger.

You can see an adorable family photo of Ron, Hermione, and Rose right here, as well as the portraits of saw Harry, Ginny, and their son Albus.

The 19-years-later Ron has clearly mellowed with age, though J.K. Rowling assures fans that he “isn’t very different from Ron in his teens, except that his feet hurt a bit more.”

Are you surprised that Rupert Grint is a Hufflepuff?
