Hypable has an exclusive look at Resistance, an alternate history World War II drama starring Iwan Rheon.

Set in a Welsh village under the shadow of a successful German invasion, Resistance begins when the men of the town unanimously disappear. (Men!) Left behind, their wives believe that the menfolk have joined a secret British resistance — but that may not be the case.

Resistance, from Omnibus Entertainment, also stars Rheon’s fellow Game of Thrones Tom Wlaschiha. Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex) and Birdman‘s Andrea Riseborough also star.

An exclusive trailer for the film sets up the ominous parameters of invasion and defiance. In a world where self-determination (much less victory) seems impossible, Resistance asks the crucial question: What is worth surviving for?

Iwan Rheon and Tom Wlaschiha never have the chance to interact on Game of Thrones, but they do share a tense scene in Resistance. The Welsh farmer and German officer meet over the grim bureaucracy of occupation, presumably spurring Rheon’s character to the work of resistance.

Fittingly for a film that takes place in a homefront turned frontline, Resistance also focuses on Andrea Riseborough’s character, Sarah. As a young wife left behind, Sarah finds that survival may ultimately require a human connection with the enemy.

About ‘Resistance’

D-Day has failed, and, as Panzer divisions and Nazi troops sweep westward across the dispirited countryside, Sarah Lewis (Riseborough), a young Welsh farmer’s wife, awakens to find that her husband, along with all the other men are gone – presumably having fled the village to join the top-secret BRO.

Shortly thereafter, a small Wehrmacht platoon arrives in the pastoral countryside and sets up an outpost in the valley to root out the resistance. And when the severe winter forces them to cooperate with the locals, Sarah befriends the commanding officer, Albrecht (Wlaschiha), and the lines between collaboration, duty, occupation and survival are put to the test.

Resistance will be available for download and on DVD on March 7.
