Worried about Netflix’s shrinking library? Worry no more, because the streaming service wants to release no less than 80 original movies in 2018.

Well, here’s the explanation for why your Netflix subscription price just went up.

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos revealed Monday, as quoted by Deadline, that the streaming giant will be producing everything from your average “million-dollar Sundance hit” to “something on a much bigger scale such as Bright at the end of this year or The Irishman, which is currently in production.”

80 movies is roughly seven movies a month, or one movie every 4-5 days. It is a pretty wild number, and that’s not even counting its dozens of original series. With such a huge magnitude of various creative output, we have to wonder how varied the quality level of these productions will be, too!

But this is clearly the time to focus on streaming-released features, as more and more big stars are jumping into the streaming game; Netflix has itself inked deals with big names like Shonda Rhimes and Adam Sandler, and the upcoming movies mentioned above star Will Smith and Robert de Niro, respectively.

As Netflix is producing more content of its own, major television series and movies are moving off the site, with cult hit shows like 30 Rock and Parenthood moving to Hulu, and Disney planning its own exclusive streaming service.

The question is if people will continue to subscribe to Netflix as a major original content provider, or move elsewhere for their streaming needs.
