Fans anticipating November’s Pokémon Sword and Shield release will be excited to know that the opening of the game won’t limit them to only easier battles.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will allow you to fight very strong wild Pokémon, and assumedly higher leveled trainers, right from the get-go. A first for the series, this is sort of a big deal. Eurogamer reports that in their two-hour-long play session of the beginning of the games, they were able to meet some pretty intimidating Pokémon in what they describe as “the bravest thing Game Freak has done for a little while.”

What this open-world element means is that if you’re able to take down a level 50 Pokémon with your level 5 starter, you’ll gain some jumbo experience. While I’m not sure how players will be able to figure out how to exploit the stronger Pokémon battles, I have no doubt that they will do so almost immediately after the games’ release.

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players were able to head on into Hyrule Castle to defeat Calamity Ganon in less than an hour into the game. While it wasn’t recommended that you do this, there were item and upgrade exploits that made this quickly possible, leading to some pretty impressive speed runs.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will likely see a similar trend in its speedrunning community, even though the Gym badges will prevent them from racing through the game without pause. At that, the defense and attack amplifying items in Pokémon Sword and Shield are bound to be as broken as they always have been, making some incredible takedowns of level 50 Pokémon at the beginning of the game inevitable.

Recently, Game Freak announced that Pikachu, Eevee, and Charizard would be receiving new Gigantamax forms, amongst other Gen 1 Pokémon. Gigantamaxing will allow players to change the way certain Pokémon look, along with increasing the Pocket Monster’s size more than tenfold.

Pokémon Sword and Shield will hit for the Nintendo Switch on November 15, 2019.
