Fox Searchlight’s upcoming adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion has found its leading lady in Sarah Snook.

Jane Austen’s Persuasion is once again getting the adaptation treatment– and the film has already found one of its two stars.

According to Deadline, Emmy nominated actress Sarah Snook has officially been cast in the new Persuasion adaptation coming down the pipeline at Fox Searchlight.

Snook, who currently stars in HBO’s hit drama Succession, is set to play the role of Anne Elliott in the big screen adaptation of Austen’s last fully completed novel.

Published in 1817, the novel tells the story of Anne Elliott and Captain Frederick Wentworth, whom were once engaged to be married. In the end, Anne calls off the engagement after she’s connived by a trusted family adviser that Frederick isn’t well enough connected to be considered a proper match for her.

Anne and Frederick Wentworth’s paths cross again more than seven years later, after Wentworth returns from the war as a wealthy, decorated Captain. Suddenly, Anne finds herself grappling with the reality of regret, missed opportunity, and the potential of unrequited love as old feelings begin to bloom again.

Behind the camera, Mahalia Belo (best known for helming series The Long Song and Requiem) will serve as director on the adaptation. Belo will direct off of a script written by Jessica Swale (Summerland, Longbourn).

Co-financed by BBC Films, Searchlight’s Persuasion adaptation is set to be produced by Alison Own and Debra Hayward of Monumental Pictures.
