Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany will make her New York stage debut in the off-Broadway production of The Way We Get By this coming spring.

The drama, written by Neil LaBute and directed by Leigh Silverman (who was nominated for a Tony Award earlier this year for the revival of Violet), will make its Off Broadway debut at Second Stage Theatre in the spring of 2015.

In contrast to her role(s) as the clones on BBC’s hit drama Orphan Black (for which she has unfairly yet to be nominated for an Emmy), Maslany will be playing just one character, named Beth, in The Way We Get By. In fact, the play itself is written for just two people.

Maslany will be starring beside The Newsroom‘s Thomas Sadoski, a New York stage veteran who previously earned a Tony Award nomination for his portrayal of Greg in another one of LaBute’s productions, Reasons to be Pretty.

Second Stage Theatre’s description of the production is as follows:

“Meet Beth and Doug: two people who have no problems getting dates with their partners of choice. What they do have, however, is a very awkward encounter after spending one hot night together following a drunken wedding reception they attend. They wake up to a blurry morning where the rules of attraction, sex and society are waiting for them before their first cup of coffee, which leads them to ponder how much they really know about each other and how much they really care about what other people think. ‘The Way We Get By’ is a play about love and lust and the whole damn thing.”

While the official opening date has not been set, the play will begin preview shows on May 12, 2015 and will have a limited engagement through June 28, 2015.

Curiously, Maslany’s commitment to The Way We Get By seems like it will have some overlap with her work on Orphan Black. That is, unless Orphan Black‘s third season premieres earlier than its second season’s April 19 premiere date.

Tatiana Maslany’s role as Beth will undoubtedly be drastically different from her roles as Sarah, Helena, and the other clones (including Orphan Black‘s Beth!), but no less impressive. Here’s hoping that her role as Beth in The Way We Get By will earn her an award worthy of her talents.
