This week’s Orphan Black was surprisingly devoid of Castor issues and threats (especially after last week’s shocker) and focused instead on everyone’s favorite suburbanite, Alison.

Alison and Donnie’s terrible, no-good, bad day

Via orphanblack.tumblr.com

It’s a big day for the Hendrixs! After Donnie gives her a monthly DYAD-mandated checkup (kind of weird), the two set off to finalize their acquisition of Alison’s mother’s shop, Bubbles. Though Alison’s mother isn’t on the Hendrixs’ list of favorite people, they suffer through her insults and criticisms. The two then leave Bubbles and set out for Alison’s old high school, leaving the older Mrs. Hendrix to peruse the legal jargon of the sale papers.

Donnie and Alison meet Jason in the high school parking lot. Donnie grabs what’s supposed to be an envelope filled with $30,000 and jumps into Jason’s truck so that they can meet up with the leader of the drug dealers. Meanwhile, Alison heads inside where an eager Felix has been working to set up her campaign booth. Today’s the day of the big speeches and photo ops with the community. However, as soon as she arrives, she gives Felix an envelope of signatures in support of her campaign and then has to race off to check on her mother.

Elsewhere, Donnie’s chatting it up with the Pouchy. You know, the intimidating drug dealer who previously cut off Vic’s finger. Needless to say, Pouchy doesn’t take it well when he discovers that Donnie’s envelope held campaign CDs and signatures instead of cash. Whoops!

Alison has her own bad news to deal with. It turns out that her mother doesn’t want to sell after all, partially because Donald Francis Chubbs would be co-owner. (That’s right; Donnie took Alison’s last name because his last name was CHUBBS.)

Alison races back to the high school for the photo ops, only to discover that Cosima is impersonating her, Donnie took the wrong envelope, and her mother had followed her into the school. Oh, and now Felix knows about her side business.

Alison receives a call from Donnie and has no choice but to meet Pouchy’s niece in the high school parking lot when she should be giving her speech. Unbeknownst to her, however, Jason has just convinced her mother to sell her the business. So that’s good news!

Alison succeeds in the drop and returns just in time to give her speech, which she ends up improvising with newly acquired insight on family. The short of it is that she wants to be the community’s “Mother Hen(drix)” and keep their chicks together.

So, in summary, the Hendrixs’ bad day turned out to be a pretty good day in the end. They have their store and all of their appendages, and Alison seems to have the election in the bag.

Cosima’s autoimmune disorder rears its ugly head again

Shay and Cosima enjoy a lazy morning in bed until someone knocks on Shay’s door. Surprise, surprise, it’s Delphine and she’s not amused. She’s even less amused that she had to make a personal visit to collect a urine sample from her ex-girlfriend because said ex seems to be hiding the severity of her condition.

Asking Scott to cover for her, “late for class”-style, Cosima sets out to get a urine sample from Alison so that she can hide her condition a bit longer. However, Alison is M.I.A., so Cosima gets roped into putting on fake, “unhappy, sexless marriage” bangs and pretending to be Alison for the election photo op.

After de-Alison-ing herself, Cosima finds out that she has to don the bangs once again and give a speech in Alison’s place. Apparently, that’s what she gets for wanting to cheat on a urine test. She doesn’t have to speak for long, however, before Alison takes over. Cosima flees to the bathroom to await Alison, but gets kissed by Jason on the way.

When it finally comes time for Alison to make her contribution, she refuses and instead introduces Cosima to her mom as her clone. It’s a good thing for both of them that Mama Hendrix doesn’t believe a word of it.

Cosima returns to Shay’s and hops into the tub, telling Shay about her autoimmune disorder. Then, right on cue, the bathtub ominously begins to fill with blood.

Mrs. S makes good with Helena

Sarah and Helena make it out of the Castor compound and into a local tavern while they await their rescue. Helena swindles a few locals out of some cash and Sarah orders some food and drinks. Though Sarah says that a man named “Benjamin” is to be picking them up at the tavern, who walks in but a rugged-looking Mrs. S. Needless to say, Helena isn’t happy.

Mrs. S attempts to “talk it out” with Helena, saying that that’s the only way to solve their problems. The bartender seems to agree, as she removes all sharp objects from Helena’s reach and sends Sarah away to go take a shower. Words between Mrs. S and Helena soon come to blows, as Helena beats up on Mrs. S until Mrs. S jabs her back. Instead of continuing to hit Helena, however, Mrs. S apologizes and pulls her into a tight embrace. All is seemingly forgiven.

Rachel is bored

Delphine brings Rachel into Cosima’s lab for protein testing and Rachel notices her paintings on the table. Scott, noticing her staring, gives her a glimpse of her father’s copy of The Island of Dr. Moreau. Rachel then mentions how she wants Scott to teach her how to play his farming game, as she’s just so bored.

Under the facade of playing the farming game, Scott gives Rachel passages from Doctor Moreau to decode. Rachel starts doing so, but won’t tell Scott (or anyone) what it says until she can talk to Sarah.
