Omar Sy, who won Best Actor at the 2012 César Awards for The Intouchables over The Artist‘s Jean Dujardin, has joined Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Sy is the latest in a slew of casting announcements in recent weeks, including Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage. Director Bryan Singer made the announcement via Twitter:

Because Singer made the announcement himself we do not know yet what role Sy will play. He could be playing any number of characters from the X-Men universe, let alone an entirely new character. Early speculation is that Sy, who will next be seen in Michel Gondry’s Mood Indigo opposite Audrey Tautou, may be up for the role of Bishop, a member of Xavier’s Security Enforcers, a team of mutant police from a dystopian future. The only issue with this rumor is that Bishop is a character introduced post-Days of Future Past, although the stories could easily be mixed.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is amassing an impressive cast from both the original trilogy of films and X-Men: First Class, including Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, plus many more. The film is set for a July 18, 2014 release.
