The official Merlin Facebook game has hooked fans of the BBC series since its launch last year, and now it has received a nomination for a prestigious BAFTA award.

Merlin: The Game is nominated in the “Online – Browser” category at this year’s BAFTA (The British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Game Awards, where it’ll go up against fellow nominees The Settlers Online, SongPop, Runescape, Dick and Dom’s HOOPLA! and Amateur Surgeon Hospital.

The Merlin game was developed by Bossa Studios for the Facebook platform. It allows players to design their own character and complete heroic quests alongside Merlin to save Camelot – but beware of Arthur discovering your magic!

The game launched in the fall of last year, and even though the BBC series concluded its fifth and final series in December, the game is still going strong – the team is constantly working to improve the gaming experience and add in fun things (like “Merlin Gangnam Style“) for fans stuck in a state of post-finale depression.

Last year we featured the creators of the game on our Merlin podcast Talks of Camelot (and we can confirm that they are, in fact, hardcore fans of the series) and also wrote up a review of the game. More recently, we collaborated with Bossa Studios to hold a contest allowing players to write original dialogue to be featured in the game. You can see the winners right here!

Have you played the game yet? After the end of the BBC series, we find ourselves drawn back into the world of Camelot; saving the kingdom with Merlin and Arthur, hanging out with Gwen and Gaius on the town square… and we can’t wait to see what else the game creators have up their sleeve to continue the story!

The BAFTA game awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 5.
