Not everyone in the world is a Star Wars fan. We know, we know, it’s hard to believe, but there are plenty of things to check out this weekend to escape from all the hoopla.

There has been a whole lot of hype leading up to this new Star Wars movie. There have been crazy products, commercials for just about every toy imaginable, and restaurant promotions galore. It can be a lot for someone who’s just not a fan.

Those non-fans are in luck though. There are a plethora of other things to do this weekend instead of jumping in line to watch a bunch of guys in robes swinging lightsabers at each other. Here are a few options, and there should be something for just about every taste.

1. Go see a movie that’s not Star Wars

We all know the glory that is anytime Tina Fey and Amy Poehler get together, and they’ve been pretty vocal about how they feel about their new movie, Sisters coming out the same weekend as one of the biggest debuts of the year. If you can stomach braving the crowds for popcorn, you can still enjoy a good movie in the theaters this weekend.

If Sisters isn’t your kind of comedy, there’s also the adorable family film The Good Dinosaur (which may or may not have made this writer cry at least twice). If you are in the Christmas spirit, there are a couple of options there too: Krampus for the horror fans, and The Night Before for a different dose of comedy.

2. Get yourself caught up before January TV premieres

The 100, Agent Carter, and Galavant are just three of the shows that will be returning in January, and most/all of their previous seasons can be found online either on Netflix or Amazon Instant Video. Why not settle in for a binge watch? Who needs the crowds or craziness when you can get comfy at home for the weekend. There’s always next weekend for movies at the theater, right? Relax in your most comfy pajamas and get ready for the January premieres.

3. Or try reading up to prepare for a couple of brand new series

Are you more of a binge reader than a binge watcher? Both The Shannara Chronicles and Shadowhunters premiere soon, so maybe try picking up The Shannara series or The Mortal Instruments books and get yourself ready to jump in when their shows premiere in a matter of weeks. The Shannara series is perfect for fantasy fans, and The Mortal Instruments is a great choice for anybody into the supernatural.

4. How about starting something new?

There are a lot of great shows on the air, some of which just started this fall. Supergirl on CBS has proven that it isn’t going to fall victim to some of the same pitfalls Superman shows have fallen prey to. There’s also Blindspot, which has put a different spin on the FBI drama. Check out our article all about why this show is special. It has been renewed for a second season already. You could also give Quantico a try, as we also wrote all about why you should be watching this fresh new show.

5. Maybe you’ve fallen behind on new music?

You could always catch up on new albums that have come out, especially that Adele album, 25, that’s been blowing up the charts. She will be touring this year, so now is the time to put all those songs to memory, and you can always get a head start on your gift-wrapping while you sing along. Also, there’s this whole Hamilton thing that everyone’s been talking about. It’s supposedly huge or whatever. Heck, Hype even dedicated an entire podcast episode to it. All joking aside, you might want to give that album a listen too, as it’s pretty remarkable, and you might learn something, too.

6. You can always finish that Christmas shopping!

And if you still need a couple of ideas, make sure to check out our gift guides. “Geek Gifts” did a special post for all those fantasy fans in your life, Bookhype recorded an episode ripe with gift recommendations for all the book fans in your life, and we even have a special Harry Potter-themed article with suggestions for all those that are anxiously awaiting the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. (Have you seen that trailer?)

7. Or maybe just have a cozy night in with friends

Ant-Man, Scorch Trials, and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation are all available on DVD and Blu-ray now, so you can always pick one up and spend a weekend enjoying the fandom of your choice with the rest of your Star Wars averse friends.

The point is, even if you aren’t into all the Star Wars madness, there is always something fun to do either in or outside fandom. Oh, and keep in mind, you may not be a Star Wars fan, but undoubtedly there will be some Star Wars fans totally annoyed with the rest of us when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes out next year, so don’t step on their fandom buzz.
