Universal’s 2018 comedy, Night School, is officially heading to the small screen.

According to Deadline, NBC is gearing up to turn the big screen comedy, Night School, into a multi-camera comedy series.

The Universal film, which came out in 2018, starred comedic actors Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart. It centered on a group of drop outs (one of whom is Hart), who must attend night school (taught by Haddish) if they want to stand a chance of passing the GED exam and finishing high school.

The forthcoming NBC multi-camera comedy will take place in a similar setting, focusing on a diverse group of adults, all of whom end up bonding over shared experiences, all while helping each other both inside the classroom and out in the real world.

Though the idea of turning Night School in to a series seems to have come out of the blue, it sounds as though the idea for the show has been in the works for some time now.

As Deadline reports, Marlon co-creator Christopher Moynihan, originally pitched the idea to NBC last fall. Though he’s been working on the script for the series since then, the deal for the show only just closed recently.

In addition to Moynihan, NBC has brought on a few of the film’s original producers to serve as producers on the forthcoming series adaptation. Specifically, Kevin Hart and Will Packer will serve as executive producers on the television show.

Additionally, Night School movie director Malcolm D. Lee will also serve as producer on the series.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect the show to premier via NBC.
