Casting news just keeps on coming on Aaron Sorkin’s HBO drama The Newsroom, which has just added Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer to the season 2 cast in a recurring role.

According to Deadline, the daughter of the seasoned actress will be joining the cast of Sorkin’s controversial behind-the-scenes TV show. Gummer will be playing Hallie Shea, a reporter embedded with the Mitt Romney campaign. As expected, this indicates a high level of coverage of the recent American election next season.

This has been a big news week for The Newsroom. Earlier we heard that Rosemarie DeWitt and Patton Oswalt had been cast in recurring season 2 roles. In even more exciting news, cast members Jeff Daniels, Olivia Munn, Thomas Sadoski and Kelen Coleman all confirmed that they were back to work.

It seems that they can’t keep their excitement to themselves (not that we’re complaining). Jeff Daniels is at it again:

Not wanting to be left out, Alison Pill (Maggie Jordan) has got in on the tweeting action:

In other season 2 casting news, showrunner Aaron Sorkin has previously confirmed the return of season 1 guest stars Adam Arkin and David Krumholtz. The first episode of season 2, the title of which is yet to be announced, will air on HBO in June 2013. The first spoilers for episode 2×01 and season 2 were recently released.
