Casting news for The Punisher was elevated to a whole new level on Tuesday when five new cast members were announced.

Ever since Jon Bernthal’s incredible performance as Frank Castle in Daredevil season 2, fans have been chomping at the bit for the Punisher spinoff series to finally take shape, and new information has us very excited about the prospects for this show.

Though it won’t appear until sometime next year, The Punisher is starting to get into the details of production and we can finally start to speculate about the direction this show will take.

The new cast members, according to Marvel, are as follows:

Daniel Webber (11.22.63) has been cast as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society.

Jason R. Moore (A Lonely Place for Dying) joins as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive.

Paul Schulze (Nurse Jackie) will play Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle.

Jaime Ray Newman (Bates Motel) plays Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) whose marriage has made her life far more complicated.

Michael Nathanson (The Knick, Wolf of Wall Street) has been cast as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah (Amber Rose Revah).

Ben Barnes was recently granted the status of series regular, and we also know that Deborah Ann Woll will return as Karen Page.

At the very least, the above casting tells us we’ll be diving both into Frank’s past and into his psyche as a former military operator who has been thrust back into civilian life. Daredevil gave us a great glimpse at that, but the focus was never fully on him as a character. It’ll be nice for Frank to get more time to shine.

Also according to Marvel: “Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) will write the series’ first two episodes in addition to serving as showrunner and Executive Producer. Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Luke Cage) will also serve as Executive Producer along with Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Luke Cage), Marvel’s Head of Television.”
