Modern Family season 5 has been announced, but we ask whether Modern Family has seen better days, and how the series can bounce back.

Modern Family season 5 will air later this year, after it was announced by ABC via the series’ official Facebook page.

The fourth season is still doing incredibly well, and fans around are still enjoying the series with ABC seeing figures around the 13 million mark per episode in viewership. An impressive figure, but we do have to wonder whether Modern Family is seeing its early stages of wearing out.

The fourth season has wavered from time to time, and unlike Modern Family of the past, you were guaranteed laughter from start to finish. This current season, however, just hasn’t lived up to the standards of the already high bar. Some episodes have felt lazy, and haven’t really seen any progression character- or storyline-wise. Yes, we’ve had the addition of Joseph, but that’s been the only landmark of the series.

Can we truly say we’ve learnt a lot this season? Hardly.

We’re sure ABC have taken note at Modern Family‘s slight fall from grace, as CBS’ The Big Bang Theory has eclipsed the show, becoming America’s top rated scripted comedy on television. This begs the question, how will Modern Family bounce back?

We’re hoping they inspect the earlier seasons of the series, and concentrate less on adding characters and guest stars, and head back to quick punchlines from the Dunphy’s.

Modern Family season 5 will air in late 2013, through to mid 2014.
