The cast of Modern Family have stepped out of character and become some of the older, classical television greats with Bewitched, The Honeymooners, I Love Lucy and Gilligan’s Island all in an exclusive photo shoot.

Looking back on the history of television we have surely been blessed with great television shows, and it’s with great pleasure to see one of the most popular television series in the past decade stepping out of character and paying homage to some of the all-time greats. You’ll be hard pushed to find any television fanatic to have never heard of The Honeymooners (1957-2006), I Love Lucy (1951-1957), Bewitched (1964-1972) and Gilligan’s Island (1964-1967), and the cast of Modern Family really looked to have had a great time paying tribute to these fours shows. But, let’s first have a little breakdown of each photo and see who’s who, and what’s what.

The Honeymooners was a very successful American sitcom, based on a recurring 1951–55 sketch of the same name. The Honeymooners originally aired on DuMont network’s Cavalcade of Stars before moving to CBS network’s The Jackie Gleason Show hosted by none other than Jackie Gleason and was filmed before a live audience. The Honeymooners had a short life span, and only lasted a mere 39 episodes, and has now become widely known as the “Classic 39.” Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are representing The Hooneymooners with Stonestreet portraying Ralph Kramden and Ferguson as Ed Norton.

I Love Lucy was an American television sitcom starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley. The black-and-white series originally ran from October 15, 1951, to May 6, 1957, on the CBS network. After the series ended in 1957, however, a modified version continued for three more seasons with 13 one-hour specials, running from 1957 to 1960, known first as The Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Show and later in reruns as The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. I Love Lucy was also voted as the best all-time sitcom last year in a survey conducted by ABC News, and it’s no wonder Modern Family stars Sofia Vergara and Ed O’Neill become the beloved couple Lucille and Enrique Ricardo, with Rico Rodriguez jumping in at the chance of being Enrique Ricardo IV, more popularly known as “Little Ricky.”

Bewitched was an American sitcom that originally aired for eight seasons over on ABC from 1964 until 1972. Bewitched starred Elizabeth Montgomery, Dick York (1964–1969), Dick Sargent (1969–1972), Agnes Moorehead, and David White. The show features a witch who marries an ordinary man and tries to lead the life of a typical suburban housewife. Bewitched enjoyed great popularity, finishing as the number two show in America during its debut season. The show continues to be seen throughout the world and on DVD and was the longest-running supernatural-themed sitcom of the 1960s–1970s era. Bewitched has since had several remakes in television and film and retains its immense popularity throughout the world. Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen are on hand here to re-create Samantha and Darrin Stephens with Ty looking especially suave in that grey suit.

Gilligan’s Island was an American sitcom created and produced by Sherwood Schwartz and originally produced by United Artists Television. Gilligan’s Island starred Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Tina Louise, Russell Johnson and Dawn Wells. It aired for three seasons over on CBS from September 26, 1964, to September 4, 1967 and ran for a total of 98 episodes. Gilligan’s Island went on to theatrical and film remakes which no doubt have inspired the ensemble of Ariel Winter, Sarah Hyland and Nolan Gould who are seen here as Mary Ann Summers, Ginger Grant and First Mate Gilligan respectively.
