Modern Family is welcomed back for its first outing in 2013 in Wednesday’s episode, “New Year’s Eve.” Although Modern Family is a little behind the current date, who doesn’t enjoy a New Year’s party? Well, maybe Jay doesn’t…

It’s been a long time coming with the return of Modern Family after its mid-season break. We haven’t seen Modern Family over on ABC since December 10, 2012 with “Diamonds in the Rough” and lets hope “New Year’s Eve” doesn’t disappoint the anxious four-week hiatus.

Where do we begin with this upcoming preview? Well, Jay has planned the entire Dunphy family – aside from the kids – New Year’s party and he sure is excited about it. He’s done his research, and has taken the whole family over to Palm Springs, but to Jay’s surprise, the hotel isn’t exactly what he thought it was. Mitchell and Cam are overly excited as always in the running up to the party, with an added side of sarcasm, but it’s Gloria who takes all attention away from the party when she realises there are no grapes sitting at the party ready for her. It sounds ridiculous, but it’s Gloria’s tradition that she eats twelve grapes at midnight – one for every month – and thus, making a wish on each grape that she eats.

Despite all the antics, it’s New Year’s and Jay eventually does have a good time when he bumps into old friends, guest starred by Billy Dee Williams and and Lainie Kazan, who you’ll probably recognise from Star Wars and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, respectively.

And, as for the kids? Well they’re stuck at home with Haley looking after them. Check out this week’s short teaser for Wednesday’s episode, “New Year’s Eve.”

Be sure to check out Wednesday evening’s episode of Modern Family over on ABC at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
