Delroy Lindo joins Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted as an established figure in comic book history.

Lindo will play Dominic Fortune, a character who debuted in the 1970s and was originally established as an adventurer from the early 20th century. Tellingly, Fortune played in 2010’s Hawkeye & Mockingbird comic, and also appears in an issue of last year’s run of comics inspired by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The role of Dominic Fortune is the first new face to be cast in Most Wanted, which will star Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood as Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter. It remains to be seen whether or not Delroy Lindo’s role will be that of a villain or ally, but Jeph Loeb’s comments on the casting suggest that it might be complicated.

“Dominic Fortune carries with him a cunning and charm but also a dangerous edge that only Delroy could bring to life,” Loeb says. “We’re thrilled to have him join the show.”

Recognized for his work on stage and screen, Delroy Lindo has appeared in many films, including Cymbeline and The Cider House Rules. He has recently been seen on television in ABC’s Blood and Oil, and NBC’s Believe.

Marvel’s Most Wanted is helmed by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. writers and producers Jeff Bell and Paul Zbyszewski. ABC President Paul Lee recently commented that the pilot episode will be filmed in the upcoming months, and that he has high hopes for the spinoff series.

“We love the script,” he says. “We think it’s going to be great.”
