Marvel Studios could be looking to tackle the What If comics for Disney’s upcoming streaming platform, Disney+.

There is no shortage of Marvel projects coming down the pipeline over at Disney’s yet-to-be-released online streaming platform.

In fact, over the course of the past few months, we’ve gotten confirmation of new series set to focus on popular Avengers ranging from The Vision and Scarlet Witch, to Falcon and Winter Soldier. There’s even a limited series about everyone’s favorite god of mischief, Loki, in the works.

Now, it’s looking like Disney+’s Marvel slate won’t just feature live-action limited series.

According to The Wrap, Marvel Studios is currently in the process of developing a brand new animated series for Disney+ that would be based off of the series of What If comics.

Originating back in 1977, the What If comics focus on telling an alternate take on storylines that happen in the established comic book storylines.

With that in mind, the rumored Disney+ animated series would not be considered canonical to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. That being said, the plan is to adapt What If comics that feature notable MCU characters fans are familiar with and that play around with alternate version of MCU storylines.

As with the forthcoming live-action Marvel limited series, the plan is for the MCU’s existing actors to return to lend their voices to the animated series.

There’s still no word on when we can expect Disney to officially launch Disney+.
