Lucy Hale and Robbie Amell are gearing up to square off against each other in the upcoming romcom The Hating Game.

Based off of the bestselling book by Sally Thorne, The Hating Game follows work rivals Lucy Hutton (Lucy Hale) and Joshua Templeton (Robbie Amell) — two characters that couldn’t have more opposite work ethics.

While Lucy is described as kindhearted, Joshua is known for being cold and efficient. Soon, Lucy finds herself squaring off against Joshua in a work rivalry, and while she’s determined to one-up him, she’s equally as determined to do so without losing sight of her morals.

Things get a bit complicated when Lucy finds herself growing more and more attracted to the man she’s supposed to be competing against.

According to Deadline, Hale and Amell are on board to play Lucy and Joshua, respectively.

Behind the scenes, Then Came You helmer Peter Hutchings has officially signed on to direct the upcoming adaptation.

Hutchings will be directing off of a script adapted from Thorne’s novel by Christina Mengert (Peace, Love, and Understanding, The Last Keepers).

Currently, there’s no word yet on when we can expect The Hating Game to hit theaters.

As for Hale and Amell, both actors have some exciting projects coming down the pipeline.

On Hale’s end, the Pretty Little Liars alum will soon be starring in The CW’s upcoming Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene. Hale will be playing the titular character in the upcoming series, which will officially air as part of the network’s upcoming 2019-2020 television slate.

Meanwhile, Amell can next be seen starring opposite cousin, and fellow CW alum, Stephen Amell in the upcoming sci-fi flick, Code 8.
