Is the reason that Lucifer relocated to Los Angeles from Hell because he wanted to reinvent himself? That’s the question posed by Lucifer 1×03.

Linda Martin, Lucifer’s therapist, believes she has his number on episode 3, “The Would-be Prince of Darkness.” The longer Lucifer is removed from Hell and spends his time around humanity, the more he starts to allegedly care — he’s changing. Though what, exactly, that means for Lucifer is less certain.

Lucifer, of course, is much stronger in his convictions. Why would he change perfection? But from the promotional video released by Fox, he seems to be crossing more lines, violently. Up until now, he’s mostly toed the line of a rebellious teenager — a little dabbling with drugs at a crime scene, sexual excess, and drumming up family drama. However, that behavior seems to be escalating, as Lucifer throws someone through a window.

Does that mean Lucifer is starting to take the cases he’s involved with more personally? Or is he bringing a little more Hell to Earth? You can take the Lord out of Hell…

But just what has set off Lucifer’s more violent tendencies? According to the synopsis, “When a 22-year-old future superstar quarterback wakes up to find a dead girl floating in his swimming pool, he turns to his friend, Lucifer, for help.”

It seems as though the cases will continue to be personal, as Lucifer — much like in the first episode — has a connection to the character involved in the episode’s case of the week. The synopsis continues, “Lucifer enlists Chloe to investigate the case, which leads to the world of big money sports and people who will literally kill to be number one.”

It’s interesting that Lucifer is voluntarily involving Chloe in a personal matter, rather than taking it into his own hands, like we might have expected. Could it be that Linda Martin is onto something? Or will things not exactly work out as neatly as Lucifer might hope?

There’s only one way to find out.

Lucifer 1×03, “The Would-be Prince of Darkness,” airs Monday, February 8 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
