Look Who’s Talking will soon be the next hit ’80s film to get the reboot treatment.

According to Variety, Sony Pictures Screen Gems is currently in the process of developing a reboot of the hit late 80s comedy, Look Who’s Talking.

The studio has already found a director for the project in The Wedding Ringer helmer Jeremy Garelick. In addition to directing the upcoming reboot, Garelick will also serve as screenwriter on the project.

In an interview with Deadline, Garelick revealed that he was looking forward to working on the reboot because it’s a film that his whole family can enjoy.

Garelick also spoke of the challenge he’ll face with regards to creating a reboot that lives up to the original, which was written and directed by Clueless helmer Amy Heckerling.

“The challenge is, that was a really good movie. [John] Travolta and Kristie Alley had great chemistry and Amy Heckerling wrote a great script,” Garelick told Deadline. “We’re in the early stages of figuring out what the story is for the modern version of the movie.”

Part of Garelick’s plans for modernizing the story is to diversify the cast. Other than that, as the project is still in the early development stages, there’s still no words with regards to how they’ll update the story for the present date, or what major changes they may make.

First premiering in 1989, the original Look Who’s Talking starred Kristie Alley as a successful, single business woman who’s life is upturned after she winds up getting pregnant, and giving birth to the son (voiced by Bruce Willis) of a married man. After a chance run-in with a cab driver (Travolta), the two strike up an unlikely friendship that soon leads to more.

There’s currently no word on when we can expect the Look Who’s Talking reboot to make its way to the big screen.
