Republic Records has released The National’ “Lean” for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.

The indie rock band’s mellow tune was almost too dramatic for the album, says lead singer Matt Berninger who revealed that the studio didn’t like the original title of the song when it was submitted.

“The song almost didn’t make it because it was too dark for The Hunger Games soundtrack, which I thought was sort of funny because [the movie is] about killing kids. I don’t know how a song can be darker than that,” Berninger said in an interview with Fuse in September. “The song was originally called ‘Dying Is Easy’ and I think that they thought it was a little too dark. So we had to change the name of the song [to] ‘Lean.'”

Beringer said he understood why they were asked to change the title. “You know, I get it. And it was a really fun project. It was a cool change from how we normally work on things,” Berninger told NME. “It was kind of a pressure release thing and it was fun. We really enjoyed it.”

The Catching Fire soundtrack will be released November 19 (three days before the movie hits theaters).

The sequel’s promotional train is rolling quick now. Yesterday the three stars hosted live events on social media to discuss the film with fans, and Jennifer Lawrence debuted a new pixie cut. We were also treated to the first two clips to be released from The Hunger Games sequel.
