This summer’s Jurassic World continues to climb up the record books.

On Tuesday, the fourth installment in the Jurassic Park series reached $1.522 billion at the box office since opening in June. That total pushes it past The Avengers’s $1.520 billion which was made over the summer of 2012.

Jurassic World is now behind Avatar at $2.788 billion and Titanic at $2.186 billion. Both were directed by James Cameron.

Now the question is this: Will Indominus Rex be able to defeat either of Cameron’s projects? The answer is “probably not” — both Avatar and Titanic have extraordinarily high box office tallies which may not be beat for a long, long time.

$612 million of Jurassic World’s total came form the United States while the rest came from overseas.

Interestingly, Universal has yet to announce a sequel to the Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard-led film — something that’s inevitable given the movie’s success. The delay may be because the studio is taking its time to develop a sort of “cinematic universe” around the dinosaurs like what Marvel has done for their super heroes.

With a box office this large, the public clearly has a thirst for more dinos. We could see spinoffs starring particular animals, characters, or new parks. That last option seems most likely, as the Jurassic World park we saw in the film is now in ruins.

Let’s just hope that Universal doesn’t let the quality of future Jurassic World films slip. We all remember what happened with Jurassic Park 2 and Jurassic Park 3.
