Customer service representatives may have been instructed to offer free Joy-Con drift repairs, according to a report of an internalized memo in Nintendo.

Ever since the handheld/home console hybrid’s release, the Nintendo Switch has been giving users an issue being referred to as “Joy-Con drift,” wherein the detachable controllers seemingly enter directional inputs that players are not doing. This will cause, for instance, Mario to wander around on your screen, or the camera of the game to continuously fall underneath your character, all without you touching a thing.

Now, it appears as though Nintendo is taking a looming lawsuit on the Joy-Con drift issue to heart. In a recent report, it was stated that Nintendo will take care of the Joy-Con drift, completely free of charge.

Vice reports that Nintendo has stated the following via an internal statement on Joy-Con drift repairs:

“Customers will no longer be requested to provide proof of purchase for Joy-Con repairs. Additionally, it is not necessary to confirm warranty status. If a customer requests a refund for a previously paid Joy-Con repair […] confirm the prior repair and then issue a refund.”

This isn’t the first Joy-Con issue Nintendo has faced, with the “left Joy-Con” problem remaining an ever-present complaint among Nintendo fans. I have found this to be a major issue when playing Super Mario Party, and haven’t trusted my Joy-Cons for any sort of intense gaming ever since.

With the Nintendo Switch Lite recently announced, Nintendo wants to ensure customers that the Japanese gaming/tech company will continue to produce high-quality gaming periphery. The report continues to quote, “At Nintendo, we take great pride in creating quality products and we are continuously making improvements to them. We are aware of recent reports that some Joy-Con controllers are not responding correctly.”

Hopefully, the now pressing Nintendo Switch Joy-Con drift issue will be dealt with swiftly. If you’re experiencing any issues with your Joy-Cons, I highly encourage you to take a turn at calling Nintendo’s customer service hotline to see what troubleshooting or repairs may get your Switch back up and running again. As I have only ever had extremely pleasant interactions and results when dealing with Nintendo’s reps, I firmly stand by Nintendo’s ability to go the extra mile to help out their loyal customers.
