Update (10/16/19): Looks like Jonah Hill won’t be squaring off against Batman on the big screen after all.

Fans flipped when we first heard word that actor Jonah Hill could be stepping into the DCEU in the role that would have found the actor playing one of Batman’s many villains.

Now, it looks as though portraying a Gotham baddie is no longer in the cards for the Superbad star.

On Wednesday (October 16), Variety revealed that Hill is no longer attached to join the cast of director Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the titular crime fighting vigilante.

Neither reps for the actor or the studio have commented on exactly why Hill chose to “move on from the project.”

Originally, it was being rumored that the actor might be portraying infamous Gotham villains the Riddler or Penguin. With Hill officially out of the race, it’ll be interesting to see who else Reeves taps to go head to head against the Caped Crusader.

Hill aside, one actor who will be portraying a notorious villain in The Batman is none other than Zoe Kravitz.

The Fantastic Beasts actress will officially be playing the role of Selina Kyle— better know to the City of Gotham as Catwoman.

Original Story (9/24/19):

According to reports, Jonah Hill is currently in talks to join the cast of The Batman as a yet-to-be-named villain opposite Robert Pattinson.

Jonah Hill is reportedly being eyed to join the new Batman movie. The Matt Reeves flick, The Batman, stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader himself, and Jeffrey Wright is currently in negotiations to play Commissioner Gordon.

As Variety reports, the producers for The Batman have wanted Jonah Hill for this movie for quite some time. However, all casting decisions were halted until the role of Batman was filled. Now that Robert Pattinson has officially boarded the project and will be wearing the vigilante’s iconic cowl, it’s time to start rounding out the cast!

However, though Hill tends to lean toward more friendly roles, it seems he’s going to be traveling to the dark side in The Batman. We don’t yet know the name of the character he’s being considered for, as reps for the film say details are still being hammered out, but Variety reports that he’ll be playing a villain if he joins the film.

Of course, the reports also indicate that though both the team for The Batman and Jonah Hill himself are keen on making this partnership work, it is still possible that it could all fall through. We’ll have to watch this one closely to see what comes from these negotiations.

If Jonah Hill is cast, he’ll be joining a small but impressive team. In addition to Pattinson, Westworld’s Jeffrey Wright is currently in negotiations to head to Gotham to portray Commissioner Gordon.

Official casting announcements should start coming out soon as pre-production for The Batman is set to begin soon. A shooting start date hasn’t yet been set, but it is expected to begin late 2019 or early 2020.
