Star Trek 3 lost its director when J.J. Abrams left to direct Star Wars: Episode VII, and a solid rumor of who will replace him has surfaced.

According to Deadline, Paramount wants Joe Cornish to replace Abrams in the directors chair for the Star Trek Into Darkness sequel.

Joe Cornish is perhaps best known for his 2011 directorial debut of Attack the Block, which he also wrote. Cornish also has screenplay credits on the set to be released in 2015 Ant-Man, which he wrote with Edgar Wright, and The Adventures of Tintin, which he wrote with Wright and Steven Moffat. If he does get the directing gig on Star Trek 3, it will easily be his biggest project to date.

Star Trek 3 will be written by Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Along with Kurtzman and Orci, Star Trek Into Darkness was also written by Damon Lindelof, but Lindelof will not be back for Star Trek 3.

As of July, J.J. Abrams had hoped that he would be able to direct both Star Wars: Episode VII and Star Trek 3, but he won’t be able to do so. Abrams will remain as a producer of the upcoming sequel.
