Movie studios are already after J.K. Rowling’s new book The Cuckoo’s Calling‘s movie rights.

Deadline reports that The Cuckoo’s Calling is wanted by several studios. “Neil Blair, who was with Rowling’s longtime rep Christopher Little before leaving, is handling the film rights directly from his UK base,” says the report. “Word is that multiple studios are in the hunt, and that Warner Bros might have an edge after making Rowling’s Harry Potter series.”

In addition, The Cuckoo’s Calling was turned down by at least one movie studio ahead of Rowling unveiling that she is Robert Galbraith, Deadline says.

Rowling made her revelation in the middle of July, and since then the book has skyrocketed to the top of the USA Today Best-Selling Books list. Demand was so strong in the days following the unveiling that bookstores and online retailers quickly ran out of stock before a second print run by the publisher put 300,000 additional copies on the market.

For those who’ve read it: Do you think The Cuckoo’s Calling is movie material?

The author was understandably “very angry” when the leak occurred by someone who Rowling did not even know.

Rowling’s last book, The Casual Vacancy, is being adapted into a television miniseries by the BBC.
