Some exciting news has been announced regarding J.J. Abrams’ shared Cloverfield universe and several (!) upcoming additions.

If you missed the train a while back, now would be an excellent time to catch up. Abrams’ Cloverfield premiered in 2008 and used the found footage trope to show us what NYC would look like if it was attacked by something that goes bump in the night.

10 Cloverfield Lane debuted this year, and though plenty of mystery surrounded its connection to the original, it was clearly a followup to the enigmatic first installation.

We brought you news of God Particle when it was announced back in February, though we weren’t aware of its possible connections to the 2008 film.

Now, however, The Wrap has learned that the film does indeed exist in the Cloverfield universe.

Abrams will produce the film, while Julius Onah directs and Oren Uziel works on the script.

The synopsis tells a story that “centers on a team of astronauts on a space station making a terrifying discovery that challenges all they know about the fabric of reality, as they desperately fight for their survival.”

But guess what? There’s even better news!

According to The Wrap’s source, “Abrams and studio partner Paramount Pictures are quietly developing more movies for the shared universe” and “hope to release a new film in the shared ‘Cloverfield’ [universe] each year.”

At first glance, this is pretty exciting news considering Cloverfield’s dedicated fanbase.

On the other hand, however, one of the best parts about the original was its lack of concrete answers. The eight-year gap between movies just fueled that mystery, so one has to be hesitant about an oversaturation when it comes to this series.

But In J.J. Abrams We Trust. God Particle already sounds like an interesting movie, and with footage potentially being shown to reporters on Thursday, we might be learning more about it very soon.

‘God Particle’ will hit theaters on February 24, 2017
