Immortalizing the influential media personality is none other than Jared Leto, who has a very personal connection to the Playboy brand: while filming Suicide Squad, the method actor allegedly sent “sticky Playboy magazines” to his co-stars.

The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that the role in the long-standing project had once been intended for Robert Downey Jr.

Says Ratner of his decision to cast Leto in the role:

“Jared is an old friend. When he heard I got the rights to Hef’s story, he told me, ‘I want to play him. I want to understand him.’ And I really believe Jared can do it. He’s one of the great actors of today.”

The untitled Hugh Hefner biopic is in development at Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment. Ratner is also working on a reboot of Hefner’s own Playboy After Dark talkshow from the 1960s.
