Instagram has announced that videos you upload to the app can now be four times longer.

60 seconds is the new max length for videos you post to Instagram — that’s up from the 15 second limit that the app previously imposed when it first launched its video feature.

The longer video limit will be rolling out slowly beginning this week. Instagram says it’ll be available to everyone “in the coming months.”

“In the last six months, the time people spent watching video increased by more than 40 percent. And longer videos mean more diverse stories from the accounts you love,” says Instagram on their blog.

In addition, those who use Instagram’s iOS app can now put multiple clips from their camera roll into one video. This feature used to be available but ended up being removed for a time.

The video editing should be a handy feature for those of us who like to create Vine-type videos, and the longer length limit will surely be helpful when we’re stressed over trimming our videos to fit a certain time frame.

The 60 second limit is much longer than the 10 second limit imposed by Snapchat, and the 30 second limit on Twitter. Meanwhile, Facebook allows videos to be up to 45 minutes long. Chances are that Snapchat and Twitter will eventually change their limits to stay in competition with the Facebook-owned Instagram.

While today’s video updates are welcome news, Insta’ users are still pissed that the app will soon be shuffling their feeds out of order.
