Those itching to experience the big screen adaptation of In the Heights can now look forward to watching the movie a bit earlier than expected.

Fans of the Tony Award winning musical, In the Heights, might have had to wait a year longer than expected for the film adaptation to debut. But the good news is, it won’t be long before the movie musical hits theaters.

On Friday (March 19), director Jon M. Chu took to Twitter to announce that In the Heights has had its release date moved up by a full week. After its initial 2020 release date got pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film was rescheduled to debut on June 18, 2021.

“Surprise. We coming to Theaters on week earlier!!!” Tweeted the director. “There has been so much demand since our trailer release this week that we decided to get it out to you sooner. Let’s gooooooooooooo!!!! See you soon. JUNE 11th 2021.”

The trailer Chu mentions in his tweet dropped during the 2021 Grammys, which took place last Sunday. Since hitting the internet on March 14, the trailer, has racked up nearly 6 million views on YouTube to date.

Given how much new footage the newest trailer features, it’s no wonder the excitement for In the Heights has only spiked. Furthermore, we’re sure fans won’t be complaining about getting to experience the movie musical a bit earlier than originally expected!

In the Heights hits theaters on June 11, 2021. The film will also be available to stream via HBO Max at no extra charge to subscribers on the same day.
