In the Heights fans will be treated to a brand new song when the movie version of the hit musical hits the big screen later this summer.

There’s no denying that there’s plenty to be excited for when it comes to the upcoming big screen adaptation of In the Heights.

Now fans of the Tony Award winning production who just can’t wait to see the film can add hearing an all new song to their list of reasons why summer 2020 can’t come soon enough.

News of a brand new song comes straight from Lin-Manuel Miranda himself. The Hamilton creator teased what fans can expect from the new number while walking the red carpet at the 2020 Oscars.

Specifically, Miranda revealed that fans hear the new song pop up during the closing credits. So why won’t it be featured in the actual film? As the Tony Award winner explains, there’s a pretty good reason for that.

“I didn’t want to spend time fighting for a new song when I knew I wanted as many of the original songs in the show as possible, so I wrote a new song for the closing credits,” revealed Miranda on the carpet in an interview with Variety.

From there, Miranda went on to promise that the track is a “summer jam.”

“The final song in In the Heights, if you’re familiar with it, tells the story so completely…there’s no more story to tell. So I just wanted to write a song where we get to hang with the characters a little longer this summer— and it’ll be sung by some of the principle actors in the movie,” said Miranda.

We can’t wait to hear what Lin-Manuel Miranda has cooked up for us now that we’ve heard a bit more about what we can expect for the new number!

In the Heights hits theaters on June 26, 2020.
