In The Heights may be on its way to the silver screen, but that hasn’t stopped Lin-Manuel Miranda fans from asking the man in question when we can expect to see Hamilton hit the big screen.
Back in June of 2016, the hit Tony Award winning musical, Hamilton was professionally filmed in its entirety with the original cast. It’s a fact that fans have not soon forgotten— especially given that while the recorded version has been sitting safely locked away in a vault somewhere ever since, we were promised that one day, it would be released to the masses.
So when can fans expect to get their hands on the long-awaited Hamilton movie?
Unfortunately, it looks as though there’s still no set release date, but Lin-Manuel Miranda himself is hoping the recorded version sees the light of day “sooner” rather than later.
“I think it’s no secret that we filmed it. We filmed the show with the original cast the week before the beginning cast members began to leave the show,” said Miranda in a brand new interview with Variety, while also revealing that the footage that was shot has been made “into a great movie.”
From there, Miranda went on to share the one reason he’s especially looking forward to releasing the recorded version of Hamilton to the masses.
“What I’m most excited about is there will be a point at which, you all have that friend that brags, ‘I saw Hamilton with the original cast’” joked the multi-talented star. “We’re stealing that brag from everyone, because you’re all going to see it with the original cast. So we’re stealing that brag from everyone.”
