Idris Elba is the latest Hollywood A-lister to reveal that he has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Idris Elba took to Twitter to share the news with the world, revealing that he’s chosen to self-quarantine after being exposed to the virus. The British star also stressed the fact that despite testing positive, he has none of the symptoms associated with the coronavirus.

“This morning I tested positive for Covid 19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus,” tweeted the Luther star. “Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing. No panic.”

That Elba has since shown no symptoms as of yet is especially important given the fact that many have been trying to drive home the fact that many carriers could be asymptomatic, but still incredibly contagious to those around them.

The dangers of being asymptomatic, but still contagious, is something the actor further drove home in the video he paired along with his tweet, which also features his wife, Sabrina Dhowre.

“This is serious, you know? Now’s the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands. Beyond that there are people out there who aren’t showing symptoms and that can easily spread it,” said Idris Elba. “now’s the real time to be really vigilant about washing your hands and keeping your distance.”

In addition, the actor went on to call for transparency, reminding everyone watching that “if you’re feeling ill, and you’re feeling like you should be tested, or you’ve been exposed, then do something about it.”
