Update (3/23/2020): Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson fans can rest easy knowing the Hollywood couple are doing much better following treatment for coronavirus.
It’s been two weeks since Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson sent fans into a worried frenzy after the actors revealed they had tested positive for coronavirus. But the good news is, both Hanks and Rita seem to be doing much better two weeks out from their diagnosis.
The actors, who contracted the virus while out in Australia doing pre-production for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic, have been doing a great job of keeping fans updated while under quarantine following an outpouring of love and support.
On Sunday, Hanks reached out yet again via Twitter with some especially great news for fans who’ve found themselves invested in how the Hankses are fairing.
“Hey, folks. Two weeks after our first symptoms and we feel better,” wrote the Academy Award winner.
In addition, Hanks took a moment to stress the importance of continuing to practice social distancing— no matter how inconvenient some might find it.
“Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give it to anyone— you don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no?” Continued Hanks. “Going to take a while, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts…this, too, shall pass. We can figure this out.”

Original Story (3/11/2020):
Actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have tested positive for the Coronavirus, which the Hollywood couple contracted while out in Australia doing pre-production on Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley biopic.
Tom Hanks himself sent a statement over to Deadline (who was first to report the news), detailing that both he and wife, Rita Wilson got tested for the Coronavirus while on location for the film after feeling as though they might have come down with a cold.
“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,” wrote Tom Hanks in the statement.
In addition, the Academy Award winner also went on to share the next precautionary steps he and Rita Wilson will be taking in light of their positive test results.
“The medical officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves!” wrote Hanks.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros., issued a statement of their own in which they revealed that someone else on the cast and crew of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic also tested positive for the virus.
“We have been made aware that a company member from our Elvis feature film, which is currently in pre-production in The Gold Coast, Australia. Has tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus),” reads the studio’s statement. “We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come into direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment.”
