Idris Elba is the latest big name star in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long-running musical, Cats.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Idris Elba is currently in final negotiations to join the cast of Cats.

Elba isn’t the only big name who’s signed on to bring the musical to life on the big screen. He joins quite an impressive cast of Hollywood A-Listers who have already signed on for the project including Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Ian McKellan, and pop star/notable cat mom, Taylor Swift.

Though the upcoming adaptation has some major star power attached to it, there’s currently no word on who will play which feline in the forthcoming flick.

Production on the film is set to start later this year out in the UK meaning that we’ll likely get a few more casting announcements between now and then. Hopefully those announcements will also come with a few more details with regards to the roles everyone has been cast in.

Toward the end of this past summer we learned that Universal and Working Title have set a release date for the upcoming adaptation, which they’re planning to release in theaters just in time for the holiday season on December 20, 2019.

Les Miserables helmer Tom Hooper will serve as director on the film with War Horse scribe Lee Hall on board to pen the screenplay.
