Following several hints over the past two years, Lionsgate has announced that the first Hunger Games attractions are coming to a Dubai theme park.

Lionsgate has teamed up with the upcoming Dubai theme park “motiongate,” a Hollywood-themed park, to create a “Lionsgate zone” which will feature “state-of-the-art theme park attractions and a retail facility inspired by Lionsgate’s global blockbuster The Hunger Games franchise.” motiongate opens in October 2016, nearly a year after Mockingjay, Part 2 hits theaters.

Details about the attractions are still slim, but the press release indicates motiongate park (lowercase ‘m’, mind you) will be 4 million square feet in size with 27 attractions. By comparison, Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is 4.6 million square feet.

Said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer in a press release, “Our franchises are continuing to drive location-based entertainment opportunities around the world. We’re proud to partner with the team at Dubai Parks and Resorts to create a thrilling total entertainment experience designed to attract millions of new fans and continue the global expansion of our brands.”

In addition to Hunger Games attractions, the Lionsgate zone will host a live stage show based on the studio’s dance franchise Step Up.

Dubai Parks and Resorts Chief Executive Officer Raed Al Nuaimi said in the press release, “We are thrilled to be working with a Hollywood studio whose creative resources, spirit of innovation and vision of the entertainment experience are so closely aligned with our own. Lionsgate’s Hunger Games, Step Up and other signature properties are the perfect centerpiece for one of the most visionary new theme parks in the world. Through this partnership we are offering even more for the whole family to enjoy on their visit and are confident that motiongate™ Dubai will set a global benchmark as the ultimate movie themed destination.”

Word of Lionsgate’s interest in Hunger Games park attractions first surfaced in November 2013. Since then, the studio has repeated its interested a handful of times.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this project because we’re very, very eager to hear what these Hunger Games “attractions” are. Here in the United States, the only Hunger Games attraction scheduled to open is a traveling exhibit with props from the film series. The Hunger Games: The Exhibition opens this summer in New York.

Lionsgate has said previously there are multiple theme parks around the world interested in Hunger Games attractions, so don’t be surprise if there are other announcements in the future.
