HTGAWM season 6, episode 5, “We’re All Gonna Die,” shone some light on all of the show’s relationships. Here’s our review of the episode.

‘HTGAWM’ season 6, episode 5 review

How to Get Away With Murder season 6, episode 5 was the episode of romantic shifts. It was like a hurricane blew through the show, shaking everything up. Some romances remained strong and fortified, while other characters were blown in completely different directions.

First, there was Frank. He basically walked through lightning for Laurel in this episode, but at the end, he was declaring his love for Bonnie. Sure, his love could purely be platonic in nature, but something about Bonnie’s reaction to Frank being hurt made me think that HTGAWM is heading toward a Frank/Bonnie endgame.

If/when Laurel ever comes back, things are going to get messy. If she left of her own accord, she’ll now have Frank’s injuries to add to her long list of reasons to feel guilty. Frank has definitely lost his faith that she was kidnapped, Michaela is mad at her, and Annalise may or may not have known where she was the entire time.

I’m really surprised by the direction that the show has gone with Laurel’s disappearance in How to Get Away with Murder season 6. I thought it would be all hands on deck, trying to find her, but that hasn’t been the case at all. This makes me think that Annalise probably is in on it. If she wasn’t, she’d spare no expense to get Christopher to safety.

I doubt somebody just stole Annalise’s C&G bonus money, but then again, if Xavier Castillo gained access to the account, he’d probably take it no matter what. And why is she asking Solomon for money? And how does he know she likes the chase? Could she be Michaela’s mother? That’s almost too tangled to even consider, but they definitely put it on the table in this episode.

If Bonnie doesn’t end up with Frank, maybe she and Annalise (who looked absolutely gorgeous in this episode, by the way) will finally explore their relationship. HTGAWM was also throwing some serious vibes in their direction this episode. Maybe the original trio of Frank, Bonnie, and Annalise will all live happily ever after as a throuple! I can’t say I would hate it.

I loved that Bonnie was the voice of reason for Annalise in HTGAWM season 6, episode 5. It really makes no difference if Annalise made the first move with Sam. She was fractured, trying to get help, and he took advantage of her. No matter how you look at it, he abused his position of power in a way that we know he wasn’t opposed to doing again with Lila.

I think Annalise’s conversation with Gabriel about how much Sam wanted him showed how much work she’s done and how much closer she’s getting to healing the wounds of her past with Sam, and the baby she lost. Her conversation with Tegan also painted a very level-headed, secure picture of Annalise, which was a stark contrast to the most disheveled version of Tegan we’ve ever seen.

It was so odd, yet endearing, to see Tegan so out of control. She’s always so put together and confident. It was interesting to see the self-doubt and insecurity that enveloped her when her wife was around, and to see her actually fall apart. As much as I’m still rooting for Annalise and Tegan to find their way to each other romantically, their conversation seemed very platonic in this episode. However, Tegan’s ties to her wife are now officially severed, so there could still be some hope.

The last romantic shift in HTGAWM season 6, episode 5 belonged to Michaela and Gabriel. They both endured some daddy drama in this episode, with Gabriel gaining some important knowledge about Sam and Michaela gaining a blank check in lieu of the father she was looking for. They finished the episode in each other’s arms, but only after Michaela chose to knock on Asher’s door, so these two might have a rocky road ahead of them.

One thing that might save them is the fact that Asher has thrown the old “you can’t go home again” saying into the wind. Asher is a caretaker, by nature, so I don’t really see him leaving his broken mother’s side without due cause. Despite his protestations, something his sister said about his unhappiness must have been true for him to pack up and go with her.

I loved how Michaela stood up for Asher in HTGAWM season 6, episode 5. Before the show made them a romantic possibility, again, I was feeling so glad that they’d actually found a way to shift their relationship into a really strong friendship. I hope she’s able to help him through this, whether it be as his friend or something more.

One couple did remain strong in this episode, but that might just be because their story didn’t get any resolution. Connor did throw out the “d” word after all, and I don’t mean the fun one. I can’t see Connor and Oliver getting divorced over Oliver’s omission, but now I’m terrified that one of them is going to make a solo trip to the threesome guy’s bed. I’m very nervous to see how this plays out in the next episode of HTGAWM.

This week’s flash forward definitely delivered where last week’s left us wanting. We now know that the murder took place in the OG apartment complex. The fact that Tegan showed up as the lawyer makes me nervous for Annalise and Bonnie, especially when you take the funeral scene into account. However, at least we can add Tegan to the list of people that are safe. Hopefully we can add more faces to that list after the next episode!
