Homeland season 3 has updated two guest stars to become series regulars, giving more flavour to the direction of the third season.

Homeland season 3 has upped two guest stars to feature far more prominently for the third season in a report with Hitflix. Saul’s estranged wife Mira, played by actress Sarita Choudhury and Dar Adal, the ex-black ops specialist played by actor F. Murray Abraham will be promoted to series regulars.

This is no surprise news especially after the season 3 plot was announced late last month. We’re getting the feeling that Saul’s professional and personal life will be falling away after the plot described it to be “shattered.”

We imagine that life will be tough between Saul and Mira, especially as their relationship hasn’t been good at best throughout the past two seasons.

Dar Adal’s promotion to a season 3 regular though should be deemed as hopeful for Saul. Adal proved to be Quinn’s contact during the midpoint of Homeland season 2 and was critical in both moving the plot forward and evolving Quinn’s character. Although Saul and Adal’s interaction was tense regarding Quinn, there seems to be an underlying respect for one another. And, if Adal is as much use to Saul as he was for Quinn, then this could be an important moment for Saul.

The report continues, and explains that Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon wanted to bring Abraham back to the series to help deal with the loss of many agents after the incident at Vice President Walden’s funeral.

The incident has also proved to be a gateway for the introduction of new characters, and to build on existing character development.

What are your thoughts on both Adal’s and Mirra’s promotion to series regulars? What do you think they will add to the third season? And, what does this mean for Saul?

Homeland season 3 premieres on Showtime September 29.
