Homeland season 3 has added Martin Donovan and Shaun Toub to the series, with the September 29 premiere drawing ever closer.

Homeland‘s parent network, Showtime, has made a surprising move by adding two more cast members to the upcoming third season. We reported back in May that Showtime had confirmed all guest stars, but it appears as though there’s enough room for two more new faces in the form of Donovan and Toub.

The Huffington Post confirmed the news that Donovan and Toub would be joining the Homeland season 3 roster, with Donovan set to star as Bennett, a partner at the DC law firm and Toub will play Majid Javadi, a Middle-Eastern intelligence officer.

We’re unsure of the exact nature of both roles, but we assume that Donovan will be closely linked with Carrie Mathison, and Toub could potentially be the replacement for the departed David Estes.

A big shakeup is right around the corner for Homeland season 3, as the upcoming series will focus less on Nicholas Brody, and will look more towards Carrie Mathison. Carrie will be trying to pull herself together after the disaster in the Homeland season 2 finale, with Saul Berenson also in the spotlight.

Alex Gansa, Homeland‘s executive producer, has been quoted as saying, “The issue in this season is, what happens if it were learned that a major attack on the United States was sponsored by a state? These are the big concerns that we’re going to deal with in the first sweep of episodes.”

There’s no doubt that Homeland will tap into suspected “inside jobs” as this was something that 24 loved to do in its original run. Could the American Government be behind such a devastating attack at Vice President Walden’s funeral?

What are your hopes for the updated Homeland season 3 roster?

Homeland season 3 premieres over on Showtime on September 29.
