Showtime’s Homeland has announced that the show that swept at the Emmy’s last month and January’s Golden Globes will return for a third season. Claire Danes and Damian Lewis are hopefully set to lead the way for a return in Spring 2013.

Homeland was a big hit with critics for its debut season, and there’s no wonder that Danes and Lewis won both Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Lead Actor, with Homeland itself picking up the Outstanding Best Drama award.

David Nevins, president of entertainment at Showtime has heaped praise upon the victory at the Emmy’s claiming, “The Emmy wins for ‘Homeland’ have certainly set the stage for a great second season. The writers, cast and crew of ‘Homeland’ continue to create a remarkably entertaining and suspenseful roller coaster ride, growing audiences week after week. We can’t wait for our viewers to experience what unfolds through the rest of season two. Our partners at Fox 21 have been tremendous, and we are thrilled to begin the planning for ‘Homeland’s’ third season.”

Much of the credit has fallen into the hands of Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, who have both pulled their influences and experience from 24 to bring Homeland its success. Figures have grown since its debut season, with Showtime announcing that season 2 is averaging 5.2 million weekly viewers, compared to season 1’s finale peaking at just 1.7 million in comparison.

Homeland is currently leading up to the fifth episode of its second season, with Showtime releasing a teaser for the upcoming episode which airs on Sunday evenings at 10PM ET/PT. Watch below!
