Showtime and Audible have teamed up to release a free audiobook narrated by Brody actor Damian Lewis in which Brody writes to Carrie about what happened to him when the two separated.

The audiobook was released right after Homeland season 3, episode 3 aired last night. Homeland: Phantom Pain unveils what happened to the distressed character after the season 2 finale in which he fled to Canada. “Picking up at the end of Season 2 after he has parted from Carrie at the border, Brody relates, in the form of a letter to Carrie, his desperate escape by sea and land as the world’s most-hunted fugitive,” reads the books synopsis. “Guided off the grid by a former CIA analyst and a battle-scarred French mercenary, he stays in the shadows…both physically and emotionally. But wherever he goes and whoever he meets, he cannot stop thinking about Carrie.”

Phantom Pain may help those who are diedhard fans of the Showtime drama dive deep into Brody’s state of mind, but last night’s episode was also clear on his condition. Brody is desperate to get out of Venezuela to move on to “the next place,” but Carrie’s former CIA contact El Nino is adamant about him staying hidden for his own good. Meanwhile, Carrie is also trapped at the psych ward that Saul threw her in. In previews for next week’s episode she appears to get freedom temporarily and takes advantage of her time outside of the ward confines to make things better between her and Saul.

This is not the first time Homeland has released a side story. In September a new book titled Homeland: Carrie’s Run was released and chronicles a terrorist take down the character took on in 2006.

The show’s executive producer says they hope to release additional spin offs like these in the future.
