For a number of Homeland fans, “I’ll Fly Away” was in indefinite make or break episode, and with all of Brody’s lies flowing between his family, the CIA and Roya, did “I’ll Fly Away” keep fans hungry for more?

After several disappointing episodes,Homeland seems to be finding its feet again. An episode that felt very similar to many of its debut season, “I’ll Fly Away” kept a steady pace of tension with no over the top action. And in keeping with its debut season, we return to Nicholas Brody at breaking point, with his mental state a complete and utter mess.

There’s no surprise that all the lies and secrets Brody is keeping are becoming far too much for him, and we think it’s only a matter of time before he’s going to let something huge slip. He still cannot give any reason of his actions to anyone around him, with his family demanding answers of why he’s backed out of filing a police report, let alone his connections with the CIA. Brody then turns up late to a meeting with Roya. She grills him hard, and still Brody begins to tell more and more lies. We then see the preview’s “We’re through!” line, and Brody sends Roya back to Abu Nazir fuelling much more speculation.

Carrie discovers Brody in the fetal position bringing him back from the brink of what appears to be an almost mental breakdown. Kudos for Damian Lewis here, who once again, much in alignment of Homeland‘s debut season brings all his acting qualities on show with a very convincing display of a damaged US Army Marine. In all the confusion of whose side both Carrie and Brody are actually on is anyone’s guess. The inevitable meeting with Carrie ends in some passionate kissing and sex, after talking over their future together. It’s clear that these two are completely compatible, and the exact same goes for Jess and Mike. Homeland‘s love plot surely could rival the likes of True Blood at this rate!

Soon after, we see Brody talking on the phone with Roya and has to get his issues off his chest. He explains his troubles at home with Jess and wants everything to return to how things were. This, begs the question of whether Jess truly wants the same. We think it’s irreparable. But things aren’t quite over yet with Brody and Roya’s meeting. Roya meets Brody in a parking lot and disables his cell phone’s tracking device. Meanwhile, Carrie is following them close behind and has an inkling that something isn’t quite right. Carrie asks for another car to follow them.

Roya and Brody stop in a nearby lane and as they exit, Roya’s insider emerges from a tree line. Carrie is too far away and is none the wiser. As Carrie’s car passes she sees Brody climb into a different car, but without Roya and the insider. Carrie is quickly on the phone to Quinn, and demands that they must stop whatever Brody is up to. Quinn doesn’t comply, and orders for Carrie to stand down.

With Carrie still too distant, her cell phone picks up loud sounds of a helicopter, and Brody is gone. He’s in a helicopter that’s appeared from nowhere and it’s too late for Carrie. Brody is transported to somewhere we believe we haven’t seen before, and before we know it, Brody has landed with a black saloon car awaiting his arrival. Out steps a shadowy figure, and it’s none other than Abu Nazir. He’s in America.

A fantastic episode that has really lived up to the last few week’s of disappointment.
