Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has just revealed stunning pictures of the Granger-Weasley family: Hermione, Ron, and their daughter Rose!

The Harry Potter play, Cursed Child, opens for previews next week. And this week they’ve chosen to torture/excite us by slowly revealing pictures of the main cast in character!

If you haven’t yet seen Harry, Ginny and Albus Potter, head to this post and see for yourself. But today, it’s Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley’s time to shine, who here stand with their daughter Rose.

We immediately have so many questions. For one, is Rose a Hufflepuff?! And second, where’s Hugo? If these portraits are any indication, Albus Potter and Rose Granger-Weasley are going to be the child protagonists (perhaps along with Scorpius Malfoy?) — or maybe the other kids are gonna be revealed separately. Since this is Rose and Albus’ first year at Hogwarts, Hugo likely won’t be around much, but we’re still wondering about the absence of James Sirius and Lily Luna.

Rose Granger-Weasley, who looks like she’ll have a major role, is played by Cherrelle Skeete, and just look at her. Isn’t she adorable? She’s perfectly cast.

Although she’s definitely got that Weasley glint in her eyes, Cherrelle Skeete tells Pottermore that Rose is in fact more like her mother:

“Rose is ambitious, obviously her mum is Hermione so she’s got a lot to live up to. I think they’re quite similar in the fact they put a lot of pressure on themselves. And she just wants to do the right thing.”

Meanwhile Rowling calls Rose “bossy but deeply lovable,” saying, “Rose is like her mother, but more secure, more grounded. She was born to wizards and knows her place in the world. Cherrelle plays her perfectly.” This aligns with what Rowling wrote in the Deathly Hallows epilogue, where Ron told her, “Thank God you inherited your mother’s brains.”

Ron Weasley, who’s of course played by Paul Thornley, gets a close-up, and Ron fans should like what they see. He looks calmer and kinder than his teen self (just like J.K. Rowling described Ginny), and as this writer can attest to, all our crushes on the redhead sidekick just came crashing back:

But don’t worry — it’s still Ron through and through. “Ron in his forties isn’t very different from Ron in his teens,” says Rowling, “except that his feet hurt a bit more. Paul’s so funny and brilliant in the role.”

And finally Hermione gets her solo shot. She has her wand out, of course, and looks into the camera with a perfect Hermione expression:

Hermione Granger (who kept her name, because of course she did) is played by the talented Noma Dumezweni, and Rowling is clearly very happy with her portrayal of Hermione. “I was overjoyed. She gets Hermione inside out,” she tells Pottermore.

The Pottermore article also clarifies the timing of the play, since there was some confusion after Albus Potter’s age yesterday. Pottermore says Rose Granger-Weasley is about to start her first year at Hogwarts, just like in “19 Years Later,” so although the actor who plays Albus Potter is much older than 11, the character is in fact starting school at the same time as Rose, along with Scorpius. It makes sense to cast older actors for these roles, and this way they don’t have to swap out the kid actors as they would’ve had to if they’d used an age-appropriate cast.

What do you think about Ron, Hermione, and Rose Granger-Weasley?

Via Pottermore, there’s one more reveal coming! Tomorrow, “two more wizarding characters” from the two-part play will be revealed. Who do you think it is? Could it perhaps be Draco and Scorpius?
