The Harry Potter play has revealed its final portrait: Draco and Scorpius Malfoy. What role will they play in The Cursed Child?

As we predicted yesterday, the final two characters revealed for the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child stage play are Draco Malfoy and his son Scorpius — and this might be the most important reveal yet!

While seeing Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione with their kids Rose and Albus was epic, we knew they were in the play. All we knew was that Draco would appear. The fact that he and Scorpius receive an entire portrait to themselves says a lot about their significance in the play.

Here’s Draco (Alex Price) and Scorpius (Anthony Boyle), via Pottermore:

What is interesting is that while Draco Malfoy is staring down the camera, doing his best Lucius impression, Scorpius actually looks… sympathetic.

We’ve speculated before that Scorpius is actually going to be a lead character in the play, joining Rose and Albus as they form a new trio at Hogwarts.

We’ve also wondered if perhaps he’ll end up in another House than Slytherin. Just like Albus’, his robes were intentionally left blank, while Rose Granger-Weasley appears to be wearing a Hufflepuff cardigan.

Here’s another look at Scorpius:

J.K. Rowling says of the young Malfoy, “I’ve got a feeling Scorpius is going to do nothing to turn girls off the Malfoy men.” This is an interesting comment — Rowling has previously expressed concern that young fans were so taken with Draco, an off-putting character in her eyes. Could she perhaps give us with Scorpius what some fans saw in Draco?

Boyle also talks about his Hogwarts uniform a little bit, saying, “He’s wearing the official Hogwarts uniform before you go and get sorted into your house. He’s a Malfoy, so his clothes should be really expensive but quite constraining to make him feel a bit awkward.”

Meanwhile, Draco himself looks like a dragon pooped in his living room:

Alex Price teases that Draco’s part in the story will be significant, too, saying, “Jack [Thorne] is such a brilliant writer and he’s taken the story into a great place 19 years later, particularly for Draco.”

We’re left to wonder if perhaps this poor, scared little Malfoy with the stern father won’t end up being the Cursed Child — or maybe he’ll just be involved in solving the mystery.
